This will keep you warm around the holidays. This is a robust E.S.B. (Extra Special Bitter) full of holiday cheer. Gritty’s Christmas Ale has a lovely, dark red/amber color and a rich, full-bodied, malty taste with a slightly roasted undertone. It’s currently “On The Block” at The Grill, what do you think?

Dogfish Head Punkin, Southern Tier Pumking, BBC Oktoberfest, Smuttynose Pumpkin and the Ayinger, but anything “On The Block” is good by me.

Ok, I like the flavor of this one and the blance was perfect but my overall impression is that the flavor intensity was low. It seems to me if they took the total flavor profile and cranked it up a notch or two it would be amazing. Nice malt characteristics throughout, with slight roast and caramel taste.

So, what’s the good word on Petrus Aged Pale?

Mouth puckering tart, if you ask me. A sour lemon flavor with sweet malt and vinegar. Not as much oak flavor as you would think, but it is present. I’m glad I had a glass of it but don’t think I could do more than one per visit.

Pours a dark brown, dense body wih a thin white head–solid for an amber… a nice balance of hops and malts, smooth and pleasant… slightly effervescent, quite drinkable–medium-bodied to the mouthfeel… nice malty sweetness with a sense of herbal fruitiness and a bit of caramel in the finish… a solid amber, versatile and consistent… I’d revisit this as a companion to nachos or specialty fries. Anyone else enjoy this one?

I found this one to be an easy drinking beer. It didn’t offer much as far as aroma, a tiny hint of malt was about all I picked up on. As for the taste, it too was mostly malt or roasted malt, and a hint of vanilla. Even though my explination sounds kind of bland I really enjoyed this beer.

How about that Ommegang Zuur?

So what is your opinion of the recent addition “On The Block” Ommegang Zuur? This flemmish sour brown ale is very unusual to say the least. In the aroma I picked up some cherry and vinegar, possibly a little oak. The taste hit me quick with sour, almost too much for my taste. Once the quick shot of sour passed I found it much smoother with a nice finish.

Glad I had and this wouldn’t be bad.
